Well Southwest Michigan is getting excellent points. George and I have gotten our first shots and go for our 2nd next week. It is such a relief to have gotten started. But we continue to be careful🐧🤗Hope all of you stay safe .

I am happy for those who have been successful. My husband and I thought we had appointments, but those were a mistake, for active teachers and police only, so they were cancelled.North Carolina is definitely better as my brother, through Duke health, and sister-in-law, who drove to Rocky Mount, have been successful. And my mother, who turned 100 in December, got her first this week. We continue to check email often after registering, and hope we are not missing phone calls after we try to screen so many carr warranty calls and scams. We all need to stay busy and keep trying!

No covid 19 appointment yet.

Russell:

To change the subject - I saw TeeJay items for sale a few days ago.  I cannot remember where I saw them (!).   Russell, I'm sure you know all about this.  There was a shirt and hat and a jacket.  Are they around in many stores?

I'd like to get something.  I could help distribute them if needed.

Belle

Hi Belle, thanks for the email. I don't mean to disappoint you but I don't rmember either!smiley However I can tell you that TJ does not get any of the revenue from the sales. I do have some TJ baseball caps that the Tee Jay Vikiings Fund sells & use the $ for projects at TJ. They're $15 and are size adjustable. Let me know if you'd like one & I'll get it to you.  Thanks for asking.

Tennessee has done a good job of getting people vaccinated.  I just had my 2nd vaccination last week.  I could qualify immediately on 2 grounds - age and healthcare worker.  They started with essential personnel and worked in other people on age and at this point they're vaccinating everybody.  I had the Moderna vaccine and the 1st shot went very well - no adverse reactions at all.  The 2nd shot is a stronger/more powerful dose and was a hard hit.  My arm swelled up in a hard knot, I was sleeping almost around the clock for a good couple of days AND had to be "contious" enough to drive to and from work and take care of my little male patient who is quickly moving from dementia into Alzheimers.  He's a real sweetie pie and at 91 years old still thinks he's some kind of Casanova!  He will say, "You know I'm BS-ing you." and I tell him he's a BS-er from way back.  He calls me his "Mama Hen" and it all works out fine.  It's really hard to see these old folks deteriorate mentally.

I suppose I'm like everyone else - tired of staying lock up at home and only venturing out for food or medication.and straight home.  This Covid has changed life for everyone on the entire planet and it seems to be regenerating itself in even worse strains.  Please take good care of yourselves, WEAR THOSE MASKS and stay safe and well.   Most of you have no idea who I am but I remember a very large number of you.  I didn't date anyone (actually I was pretty much not allowed to date at all), I didn't go to a single football or basketball game - so how would any of you have known me?

To Belle,   There is a website where TJ items may be found.  The site is Thomasjeffersonhighschool.org/richmond-va   You will need to scroll down near the bottom of the page.   I've never purchased anything from them so cannot comment on quality, etc.  Good luck

JoAnn, glad you were able to get the vaccine. Wwe try to wait patiently. I show up at the fromtheheartstitchers.org workshop on Mondays to unpack blankets, hats, masks, etc. that have aged for a week. Then several of us repack things to go to various hospitals, etc. Then I deliver them by dropping them at the doors or in the hallways.Through one organization which used to be the Fan clinic, we are able to reach some of th homeless.I can still make toys for some of the mission organizations, but I look forward to being able to make them for VCU Children's Hospital. Vaccine would be nice so that I do not get hesitant to venture too far. Glad you are over the worst!

Dear Russell,  I'm disappointed that the items don't $ benefit TJ.  I wonder who has permission todoit.  I'd like to get a baseball cap from you.  By the way, "their" hat looked good, the shir ta little .flimsy, the jacket okay, bright red with Thomas Jefferson on the left upper front.  I'll let you know when I see them again.

To Richmonders  I read in the paper that select

CVS and Walgreen stores will be getting the vacine this week.  I don't think they know about it yet.  Last time Kroger's had the vacine.  Some doctors' offices got some before and hope they will get some more.  VCU medical is supposedly looking thru their paatients to find who is elegible for the vacine.  One of mine had some before  - first come first served!  I'll be calling them rather often.

That's all I have.  My brother and his wife got it in northern

va this past weekend.

Hi Belle & George,

thanks for the info on where TJ items can be purchased. Belle, we can work out arrangements for getting a TJ cap.  Just give me a call at 382-1220. The caps are $15 and are fully adjustable with all the proceeds going to the Tee Jay Vikings Fund. I don't know who receives the other venders' revenue. The Tee Jay Vikings Fund is a 501c3. In the past we have built a new locker room, a fitness center, bought and with the help of alumns & other volunteers installed  90 whitemoards in class rooms, given scholarships, a new school marque and several other projects. Check out our website www.teejayvikingsfund.org

Russell, you could have been selling those TJ Caps at EVERY Reunion for the past umpteen years!  Just set up a table at the Lunch, Dinner, or Breakfast!

I REALLY  Hope that this Pandemic (& any that follow) are GONE by 2022, 'cause I can't imagine "Zooming"    a Reunion with Classmates from ALL OVER THE U.S.A.!!!

They wouldn't ALL fit on the computer screen, unless they were the size of Postsge Stamps!  And we would either have to magnify each photo, or create smaller groups!

Modern technology has a few drawbacks!   I prefer people-to-people contact!

PS - My husband got his 1st Covid Shot last week!  It knocked him out when he came home & he was "out like a light" for HOURS!

Our older daughter, Rachael Registered us for 2 places offering the Vaccine in this County!  The first place that replies gets our arms to poke!

PPS - Our younger daughter, Amy, turned age 51 last Friday.  (Wow! WHERE did the years go?)

PPPS - Our Granddaughter, Sammy, will appear on Cronkite News at Arizona State University's KAET-TV next week, reporting on her own original News Story! (Hopefully, she will find a way to SAVE IT on U-Tube!  I found out that I can't email videos!)

Russell Flammia

   Hi Marilyn,

thanks for the suggestion. We didn't start selling them until after our last reunion, but I can mail them to anyone who wants one. You're so right about people to people contact instead of people to computer contact. I'm discouraged, and still haven't been able to get the shot, but I haven't given up trying.smiley

Russell, the TJ cap is not on the the TJ website you mentioned.  Maybe they should advertise it, and make some $$$ that way for the Vikings Fund!  If there were any luncheons at Padow's or Pick-up Orders, you could bring them there & meet them at the door! I hope there is an "All-Clear" for one of those get-togethers by Spring!

It's already Spring here & some people are out in our Parks  NOW, playing baseball! Usually by April, it is 110 degrees in Arizona!   So it won't be long coming there!  People love to wear Baseball Hats!  And I, for one, do not own a cap that is RED!  I need one for my Spring outings, 'cause  I like to coordinate my clothes & my hats!  (And all I have now are Pink & Purple!) Besides, the Sun is pretty strong here, and a new hat will protect my eyes & my scalp!  Please clue in Mike or the Vikings Website Organizer to create a Portal to order the Caps!

Advertise!  Advertise!  Advertise!

Hi Marilyn,

Thank you for the suggestion about the portal for the caps. Send me you address by private message on this site or sent it to my school email rflammia@rvaschools.net and I'll send you one then you can send me a check for the amount of the cap $15 + postage.  Does that work for you?

No, Mike!  Those aren't  "Someone's Ears" on "the home page." Those are Cookies shaped like "Haman's Hat!" This month, we celebrate the Jewish Holiday of Purim!  The Story took place in Shushan, Persia, centuries ago, during the reign of King Ahashueras.  His Wife, Queen Vashti, did not answer his call to appear before him, so she was removed from the Palace, & the King began the search for "A New Queen!"   Among those who were presented to the King was a beautiful young woman named Esther, who just happened to be Jewish!  Her Uncle was named Mordecai, and he encouraged her to compete for the title of Queen, even though she was Jewish & the King was not!  Mordecai heard two men plotting to kill the King, & mentioning Haman's name as the planner, & he shared this information with his Niece & the King's Protectors. It was recorded in the King's Records by his Scribe, but the King never saw it.

The King had an Advisor whose name was Haman. This man was a blantant Anti-Semite, who had an Agenda "to Kill all the Jews in the Land." Esther, who won the favor of the King through her beauty & KINDNESS, invited the King & Haman to several Dinners which pleased the King a great deal.  At the last dinner, she asked the King: "How would you Honor someone who saved the King's Life?"  The King replied: "I would ride him through the streets on a White Horse & tell all the people about his brave act."

Haman thought the King was speaking about himself, & Haman would be honored for saving the King from the Jews! But Esther continued:

"And what would you do about the person who wanted to kill the King & all the Jews in Shushan?" Esther asked.  "Because I am Jewish!"

The King replied: "He would be hanged!"

Then Esther asked the King's Scribe to enter the room & to bring the King's Record Book with him!   Upon seeing the record of Mordecai's brave act, the King had Haman  Arrested & Hanged, and Mordecai was honored by a ride through town on a white horse, and appointment as the King's New Advisor!

On Purim, we read "The Story of Esther" in Hebrew from a long, handwritten Scroll,  Every time Haman's name is sung, children and parents turn the handles of a noisemaker called a "Gragger."  And later, everyone eats cookies shaped like Triangles--- the shape of "Haman's Hat!"

Mike Floyd

Thanks, Marilyn.  For some reason, I thought they were Haman's Ears.  The cookies sound delicious.  Purim begins at sunset tomorrow February 25th and ends Friday, February 26th.  Thanks for the explanation of the Purim celebration.

Marilyn Wolfe (Ruben)

Mike, I think you have confused Haman with Vincent Van Gogh!  (- who presented his ear to a woman he admired!!) 🤪😂  Wrong party!<>>

PS -The Cookies are made with dough shaped into a triangle with the edges turned in, and the center is filled with Fruit Preserves like Apricot, Strawberry, Prunes, or even Poppy Seeds. When baked, the cookies are crunchy & delicious.  You can buy them at most Jewish Delicatessans & Bakeries!

PPS- If you want to see a funny version of "The Story of Esther,"' search for "Veggie Tales!"  I used to use that to tell the story to kids in Sunday School, with a few adaptations. But they actually believed the "Veggie-Tales Story" more than the real one, so I had to explain the difference!

PPPS - The long scroll in which the story is written is called "The Megillah!". And that is the source of the     name for the cartoon character: "Megillah Gorilla!"

Hey, Mike,

This remind me of my teaching years when kids sang "My Country Tis of Thee" to audition for chorus.  I loved it and did not correcrt when they all sang, "  Land where my father died, land where the pilgrims cried".  I too  have heard something different - in the jaunty church song "LOve lifted Me"  my four-year-old ears heard (And I sang)  "Love Lipton Tea".  Seemed strange, but what isn't when you're four.

Hi Mike, Russell, et.al,

Thanks for the Iwo Jima/Coach Cooper tribute. I shared this with Jane's brothers, Arch and Tom; all three of us (+ many others) ALL were fortunate to have experienced Coach Cooper as a coach, teacher, mentor and friend. He was a positive power as we grew and have kept trying to deal with life and its "tough games" and "joyful wins".

Jim Barton

For many of us that played for Coach Cooper, he was a positive influence on our lives.  He was great at shaping young men and an excellent role model.

Jim thanks for sharing the tribute with others.

Congratulations, Carlin, for being able to post a photo on the Classmate’s Photo Gallery.  Posting photos is no simple task, but you managed to post the Albert Hill 1959 graduating class photo under Photo of the Week.  There sure was a lot of us.  Thank you.
