Russell, Looking forward to seeing everyone again. So glad Mike is on the mind as I wrote him. We are such a special class 1962. In all our messages you can feel the great kinship for all. I love Bob B's description of us. Priceless! Sometimes we can also be described as like "The Energizer Bunny." We keep on running and may we continue for more years to come. Looking forward to seeing all again for the luncheon on the 29th. Mary Lee Roger sends good wishes and good health, especially to Mike.

Hi everyone.  We made it to Maine.  Until today the weather has been wet and cold, but today we get sun and mid 50's.  We have a wonderful condo with a great view of Penotscot Bay, Rockland Breakwater and Rockland Harbor.  Today we explore Camden and tomorrow Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.  Still pretty weak, but able to get around and rest when I need to..

Sue, Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. Thought I'd bring some of Roger and Kim's soap and their new listing of all their products. I hope eventually they will get their email up and running so orders can be taken. Kim has someone working on it now. She has been doing a lot of shows along the coast. I see Jimmy has a birthday coming up on the 24th. Mine is the 30th. It used to be Memorial Day, but now Memorial Day varies from year to year. LOL MaryLee  PS Kim said she hopes thing will be up soon.

I started taking/collecting photographs of lighthouses years ago when touring the Olympic Peninsula.  I drove through the Makah Indian Reservation and hike down the side of a mountain to photograph the Cape Flattery Light on Tatoosh Island where the Puget Sound flows into the Pacific Ocean.  I was a lot younger then.

Below are two of the lighthouses I photographed yesterday.  I’m really pleased with the Curtis Island Light as again I had to hike down a trail at dusk to get the photo in the fading light.  Fortunately, the trail was short and not very steep but still challenging.

Great photos, Mike!  It reminds me of the trip Joel and I took to the West Coast of Washington State a few years ago,  when we toured the Olympia National Forest and the Beach area.  It is really beautiful up there - so many trees!!  We also found a restaurant right in the middle of the forest, with Totem poles and Wall decorations made by the British Columbian Tribe of Native Americans. I have been told that tribe migrated down the West Coast to Mexico long ago and became the Aztec Tribe. Both of those Tribes have a lot of symbolic Art!

Joel has 2 cousins who live in Washington State with their families, and our younger daughter, Amy lived there for l5 years before returning to Tucson, because she "got tired of the rain and wanted to be closer to our family."  It is a gorgeous area, and we haven't seen it since around 2005 -2006.  I am feeling ripe for another visit there!

The furthest North we have traveled was Boston and Concord, Massachusetts, Joel has cousins there, also!  We have never seen Maine!     I have been told that Prince Edward Island is a really pretty place to visit!  Maybe one day we will fly back to Boston and head North to see Maine and the Island as well !!!  Keep taking photos!!!   These are really nice, and here in the desert, it is so hot, it is a pleasure to see something that looks so cool !!!   I bet the temperature there at this time of year is really delightful !!!

PS - If you are "into" Lighthouses, have you and Harriet seen the one on the Eastern Shore a few hours from Annapolis?  Or the very old one at Chincoteague Island?  Both of them are GREAT "Photo Opportunities!!"

Hi Mary Lee

Just seeing your message.  Please bring the information from Kim with you.  I am glad to hear that they have been doing shows.  It's a shame they haven't been able to get their web site going - but with the shows I hope  business has been good.  Wishing safe travel for you and Roger.  We have been inundated with rain and the forecast is for sunshine on Saturday...it should be a nice day for the luncheon.smiley

Hugs, Sue

Mike, Have you ever taken Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands light houses. I'm sure you have. One of our bathrooms is completely lighthouses . We have a border of lighthouses as well as signed art work. Light houses are my favorite and I have been keeping track of all we have seen over the years. We will miss you Saturday, but know we'll see you at the reunion. After the luncheon we have been invited down to Toppings Va to my friends not too far from you. We hope to be there again during the summer, so maybe we can touch base. Mary Lee     Take it easy, but enjoy the sights.

Hi Sue, Yes the shows have been great and they have done quite well. Many of the shows are by invite only, so she has been invited to them. This means she is becoming well known. Looking forward to seeing you & Jimmy on Saturday as well as everyone else. We have so much fun and Roger says he definitely feels a part of the class. See you Saturday. Mary Lee

I forgot to add that I recently spoke with Miss Estelle Tankard, our former Journalism Teacher at Tee Jay!   She is recuperating from surgery and she is doing well !  I told her that I always brag about her class, because she was probably the best English teacher I ever had!

Hope you are doing well, now!............

Hello, everybody!   I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  We were a lucky generation, born during a horrible War which liberated Europe from tyranny.  We hold dear the memories of those we lost during many Wars fought later on to preserve the freedoms of people in this country and others, as well!

We just attended the 2 High School Graduations of a family member and a friend. The first included a tiny group of 100 students in our local Catholic High School, and there were speeches from 5 different people, including Principal, the Valedictorian, a Salutorian, and a Guest Speaker who organized the original Fund-raising Campaign to create the school, years ago.  We all cheered for my Son-in-Law's Cousin's youngest child, who was President of her Senior Class.  Guests in 3 rows behind us made up ONE FAMILY, who outdid all the other families there in numbers and in loud hoots and hollers!   It was a wonderful occaion!

Afterwards, we went to the Graduation of the Senior Class at my Granddaughter's High School.  There are over l,000 students in each grade of her school, with about 6,000 in the total enrollment.  There were so many people present, the choir, band, students, parents, and speakers on the podium took up the length of the football field, and the bleachers on eiither side of the field were filled with visitors as well.  A minumum of 100-200 more people were standing l0 rows deep behind the fence around the field!   I never saw so many people at a graduation here before!   The speakers included the Valedictorian, Salutorian, Principal, Senior Class President.  The 10 top students were honored with Merit Scholarships and 1 of them is a National Merit Scholar. We were so proud!

Tonight I am thinking about those graduates, one of whom I have known since she was about 6-7 years old.  She was a funny little tomboy,  trying to keep up with her 3 brothers in sports as well as in brains. Now, she is a beautiful young woman, much taller than I am, wearing makeup, and glowing with pride in her cap and gown!  She is a Merit Scholar, bound for a private college in California. The other graduate is a newcomer to Yuma from Denver.  She arrived several years ago, knowing absolutely no one, and made her way to the top of the class as Salutorian. She will  attend U.C. L.A. in California, and she wants to become an M. D. !

I keep thinking back to the day we Graduated from Tee Jay in June, l962, with no awareness of all that lay before us!  So much has happened since then, and so many miles separate us.   I turn to look at my l7 1/2 year old Granddaughter, who smiles broadly and says, "Next year, that is going to be ME!!!"  Time marches on, much too fast for me, and soon she will join the group of leaders of the next generation!   She is our only Grandchild, and we all wonder what is going to be in her future!

Have a Wonderful Summer and I can't wait to see everyone at the Reunion in September!

P. S. to Mike - The song selections on the T.J. Website are great!   We just happened to hear James Brown's song, "It's a Man's World" at my Granddaughter's High School Dance Program:  "Dancing Through the Decades" last week!!! What timing!.........Also, I remember the song, "Wynkyn, Blynkyn, and Nod," but not by Carly Simon!   And what was the name of her Sister?    I never saw her perform with Carly!!!

Nice photo you just put up, Mike!   I would never have recognized either of my classmates!

Joel & I were having a discussion today.   I said I do not remember anybody in my classes at Tee Jay being

so BAD that they were sent to the Principal's Office !  He said I was "making that up!"  He grew up in the big

City of Chicago, and it was a lot "roughter" than Richmond was between l958-62.

So I am wondering.

The only thing I remember was one student falling asleep on his desk in class and being called on by the

Teacher to read. Everyone laughed when he finally woke up !

Does anybody else remember any incidents from Tee Jay when somebody (no names) got caught talking

back to the teacher,  "acting out" in class, fighting with their classmates, or getting into mischief?

I have only good memories of Tee Jay.  I thought my classmates were pretty nice folks.  The only thing I

struggled with back then were a few really tough courses in Algebra, Latin, and Civics.  Those teachers were

so different from the ones in the next generaton!!  After the l960's, our kids had "FUN" in school !   I don't

remember hearing much about "strict teachers," becasue it was a different Educational System!

(I proofread that entry before I submitted it, but somehow, the word came out spelled:  "Roughter!"                        I don't think there is such a word!   It is supposed to say, "Rougher!"  Ha!  Ha!)

This message is for Barbara Seely and friends who might read this.  Seely, it was good to hear from you!  We've been living in middle Tennessee for over 30 years now.  Alex is helping coach part-time at one of our local high schools (they have a talented quarterback; Alex coached quarterbacks for 23 years at Middle Tenn. State Univ.).  Anyway, I'm still working part-time also, and so because of this we'll be unalbe to attend the next reunion this fall (I had hope we could come...).  We have grandchildren we're very involved with.  I take the 3 and 4 year old grandsons to preschool 1 morning each week.  We just had a new grandson, Josiah, born Jan. 4th.  Alex and I both still exercising each morning and I've recently started Yoga.  We will miss being with everyone at the reunion - I'll be thinking about you all - I know it will be fun!   Peggy Smith Robins

Peggy Smith! - How are you?   I remember you from " 'way back when" at Westhampton School !   I'm glad you joined the Website Message Forum!   "Long time no see!"   I live 3,000 away in the very strange State of Arizona!  No matter what we are doing, I always make plans to fly in to Richmond for the TJ Reunion! - it is one of the "High Points" of my life!  It is only 2- 3 days long!  I wish you could join us!  What kind of work are you doing???

Mike, the picture story about Miss Tankard is fantastic !!!  I am so happy you put it on the TJ Page!   I have not seen her since she hosted a Birthday Party for my Mom the year that we moved to Arizona!- l988!  The Eastern Shore is really beautiful !   I love it!  We were down that way in 2010 to see Chincoteague and Assateague, but we didn't get a chance to see her!

I seem to remember a classmate named Sims Brockenbrough!  Was she related to Harriet?  That is a great photo!  I see Miss Tankard still has her big smile!  I always tell everybody she was the best English Teacher I ever had!!!

Thanks for posting the photo on my profile page of me and my Granddaughter from 2 years ago in Chicago!       I need to send you the one they took of me this year!  - minus the ponytail !!!
