Robert Wilson

Has anyone ever taken a 'Road Scholar' trip. ['Road' is the correct spelling for this organization]. I just returned from a week day hiking in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Beautiful !! We observed lots of elk, bison, and a few grizzly bears. I missed seeing Janet Yellen by several weeks.

Hi Robert,  Great to hear from you.  Sounds like a wonderful trip.  You must be in great condition to hike the Tetons as they are monsters.  I have visited Jackson Hole, the Tetons, Yellowstone and Big Sky Montana twice and they are all truely remarkable.  If you were able to take some photographs, please post them as we would all love to see them.  I hadn't heard to Road Scholar Trips, but saw an add by them for hiking the Grand Canyon the day after your posting.  Their trips all sound wonderful.  Keep in touch.

Mike

Tee Jay Class of 1962 Class Luncheon

We had another successful class luncheon at Padow's on Saturday, September 17th.  Several folks traveled from out of town to be there.  Dr. Roger and Mary Lee Hudson Meacham traveled the furthermost from Thorndale, PA.  Connie Young Williams traveled from Alexandria and Jim and Jane Berkeley Barton from Fairfax. John and Cathy Morton Rose came from Williamsburg, Jim and Sue Salemme Antonick from Gloucester and Harriette and Mike Floyd from Urbanna.

I arrived too late (due to beach traffic) to see Susan Hume Atkinson and Connie Young Williams.  It is great to see everyone being involved and enjoying themselves.  We are planning another luncheon for November 12th and possibly October 6th, 7th or 8th while Susan Newbold is in town.  See Announcements for more information on Susan Newbold’s show in Ashland, VA.

Hi Mike & Susan,

Jackie and I will be in Massanutten for the entire week of Oct.2-8.  I'll be glad to help out until we leave. I'm sorry that I will miss everything. Susan, it's been a long time since I've seen you. Hope you can make the reunion next Sept.

Sue Salemme (Antonick)

Dear Susan, Mike and Sidney,

Your flyer about the showing in Ashland is beautiful Susan.  I hope it will be a huge success for you!!!

The week you are in town is a really crazy week for me.  As much as I would love to see you I won't be able to come up to Richmond on Thursday, October 6th because I have two long standing commitments.  I am sincerely sorry about the timing.

If the date is ok with Sidney, my suggestion would be to place the lunch invitation with the lovely flyer letting everyone know that Susan will be at Sidney's at whatever time decided.  Maybe they can rsvp directly to Sidney so he will know how many attending.  I truly hope all this can be worked out so Susan will get to see some of the class and the class will get to see her wonderful talents.

Thanks so much, Sue for that sweet response.  I'm so sorry I won't get to see you!  I'm still so disappointed that I didn't get to come to the Reunion because of that crazy hurricane.  Hope all is well with you and that our paths will cross again soon.  Where do you live?  Is it VA Beach as I recall?  I'm heading there afterwards. xoSusan

Susan, Hope you get to come to the 55th next year. We have a lot of fun getting together for our luncheons. We come down from Pa. If you every have a show up near West Chester, Pa let me know. Our daughter-in-law and son have a company Milk Street Soap. Both of them are artists also. Kim was a metal sculpture and Roger was a metalsmith who graduated from University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Our granddaughter, Whisper is very talented in drawing. Don't know where the talent comes from. I wish we could be in Richmond for the show. Keep everyone abreast of your shows. Mary Lee Hudson Meacham

Mary Nelson Payne (Reynolds)

I am hoping many of you can come lunch with Susan Newbold on Thursday, Oct. 6, and can share her talents with her that evening in Ashland or can come later to see her work.  We had such fun at the last lunch.  I hope others who have come in the past and haven't revisited can come this time.  Sue Pridham Lumpkin, we will particularly welcome you back.  We loved seeing so many of you who came from afar for the last luncheon. Hope you can come this time. Bring pictures if you can find them from way back then.  That has been a particular joy.  I assume Mike will give us a date to let Sidney know we will be there.

Please keep Mary Lee & Roger Meachum's family on Ocracoke in your prayers. Water came in from sound side due to Matthew. It was pretty high up. His truck is ruined and now if water doesn't stop coming, the soap studio will be destroyed. They saw on the news that the water may be receding. They can't reach them because they are saving phones and no electricity. They are devasted.

Mary Lee Hudson (Meacham)

Mike, thanks for prayers. The soap studio had 8 1/2 inches and garage 24inches. The floor in studio will have to be replaced, but soap not damaged. The water has receded and he has to wait for truck has dried out to check damage. The chickens in coop were safe and they were ok. Still no electricity on island. When trucks from electric can get to island hopefully things will get back to normal. They are safe and that is the important thing. Roger says thanks for prayers also. Mary Lee Hudson Meacham

Mike,  Everything, including electricity came back on Ocracoke. It was a little stressful, expecially the soap studio, but thanks to prayers things worked out. I am so proud to be a member of this fantastic class. Roger appreciates his "honorary" status in the class. Hope all is okay for everyone who may of been affected by "Matthew." Mary Lee

Even though that part of NC is subject to these sorts of periodic natural occurrences, there is no way to ever get use to something like this kind of flooding and the devastation that follows.   During elementary school years I use to go and visit with Ann Proctor's grandparents who lived in Lumberton, one of the worst hit areas according to our news.  Lumberton is down almost to the SC line, so not close to the Ocean at all, and it's hard to invision how or why they have such destruction there.

Note:  Our daughter and her gang live in Beaufort, NC - which is a coastal seaport town - and they were relatively OK throughout this past weekend.   However, this was just a truly terrible storm and we remain very grateful!

Hi Jane, Kim and Roger were very lucky it wasn't the ocean but water from the sound. They has 8 1/2 inches in studio and 24 inches in garage. The worst damage was Roger's truck and the floor in the studio. They have been lucky before and if they had had the opportunity would have left the island but it came in before they expected which was suppose to be later, but it came in the am. No one was injured on the island and that was a blessing. Hope all you family is okay. Enjoyed seeing you when we were down. We have a very special class. Mary Lee Hudson Meacham

Jane, I am so happy that your family was okay. We always pray they will be safe and usually will get off the island, but this storm came in earlier than expected.  Mary Lee
