Mike, in college I once served as social chairman for my fraternity. One of my responsibilities was to select and sign contracts with the bands we hired to play at parties, etc. One of these bands was Bill Deal and the Rhondels. Bill was easy to work with and the band was great. Fast forward many years and my niece married Bill Deal's nephew. Small world. See you in September!

Hi everyone, I hope everyone who attended the reunion had a wonderful time. As for me, I'm still recovering. Arfter all, a four hour lunch on Friday and a two hour breakfast on Sat. is enough is enought to tire out anyone out!  But it was certainly worth it. :-)

At the present time  I can picture a lot of smiling happy faces and hugging goinig on. I'll keep that imagine in my mind for a long time and I hope you will too.  Safe travels my friends.

Thanks for all your hard work, TJ 1962 Reunion Committee!  We had a good time this past weekend & it was worth the 3,000 mile flight to see all the classmates who attended!  I wish we had another day to spend together, so I'll look forward to the next Reunion!  Have a Healthy & Safe Time Ahead Until We Meet Again!

Dear Classmates:

I would be remiss if I did not comment on our recent 60th Class Reunion this past weekend. For those in attendance I think you all would agree that the work that the Reunion Committee did was "OVER THE TOP". Kudos to them.

As we continue our lives post our High School Graduation from Thomas Jefferson, we indeed had a wonderful foundation for the life we currently have. Frank Louthan referenced some of the outstanding vocations that developed in the years that ensuned. Certainly I am very grateful to that foundation and for our classmates in the lives that they are living.

Again, thank those who attended and may your lives be filled with Joy and Happiness.

I must add my "thanks" to the reunion committee for a job very well done.  Lunch at the Hermitage Country Club was delicious.  We had lots of time to visit and catch up on events in each other's lives before the music began.  It was sad to see how many classmates have passed away, but seeing their pictures brought back happy memories.  Breakfast at Pickel Barrel was also delicious and afforded more time for visiting with each other. Thanks also to those classmates who managed to attend in spite of having to travel a considerable distance.  It was great to see you!  I had a wonderful time and really appreciate the reunion committee as well as this website (thank you, Mike)!

Adding my thanks for all the hard work that went into planning our fabulous 60th reunion.  The committee did an outstanding job as always and a huge thanks goes out to all involved. It was great to see so many classmates and to get caught up on all that has transpired since our last reunion.  Thanks, Melvin, for securing the Hermitage Country Club for the main event.  It was a beautiful venue.  And the food at the Pickle Barrell breakfast was amazing.  Finding biscuits and sausage gravy in Northern VA is difficult at best, so that was a real treat.  Hope everyone had a safe journey home for those who traveled long distances to attend.  Thanks again to everyone for a wondeful weekend.  Look forward to the next one.

Charlie, that is great news about your Mother being 105 years old and on her way to 106. My Mother lived to 105 and worked the information desk at 100 years old as a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital In Richmond. These women came from a wonderful generation of strong southern women. We were lucky to have them for so long. Hope your Mom will have a great 106th in February.

Fondly,

Chuckie Krumbein's Mom & my Mom were good friends who worked together on Community Projects in the 1950's!  She is a lively lady with a big smile & friendly manner.  I lost my Mom at age 96 in 2008, but Mrs. Amy Krumbein is still smiling and moving along!  She is an incredible, energetic lady!  I hope her Birthday in 2023 & all her other days in 2022 are as amazing as she is!

Bad news on tv about the West Coast of Florida on the course for the Hurricane!

Hi the announcement from the Richmond City public schools is they will change the name of Thomas Jefferson High School because he was a slave owner.  SO I think that means we should not teach the Decleration of Independance in Public schools!!!!!!!!

I agree Charlie...next thing, they will want to burn Monticello.

Hi folks, after Charlie and I checked the article there was no mention of a name change for TJ. The school board did vote to rename Ginter Park, John B. Cary, and Binford. The cost to make the name changes accordiing to the superientendent will be $25,000 to $40,000 per school.

Shouldn't we strive to "learn" from our history?  We cannot  "change" our history.

Wow!  I have been out-of-touch with the News from Tee Jay and Richmond. I sure hope they don't change the name of our school!  It seems like there is some kind of movement to erase history in the U.S.A.!  I'm sure you have heard all about the crazy politics in the Deep South & Southwest in the News!  I keep searching for a little sanity in this State & Country, but it is often elusive!  I wish we could turn back the clock to the time when things were more objective! . . . I hope everybody had a nice Thanksgiving!

I think the motivation behind the anti-Jeffersonians is very bad. They are against Jefferson because he moved the world AWAY from slavery.

A person's historical significance lies not in the ideas and practices that were common in his time but rather in what was distinctive about him, what he introduced that was new and different .Slave ownership was, unfortunately, common in the 18th century. In fact, the acceptance of slavery is the default condition of mankind: it takes the development of civilization and of certain political-ethical ideas in order to grasp the dignity of, then the inalienable rights of, other human beings.

Jefferson's distinctive role was to advance this movement toward freedom. His historical meaning was not that he, llike so many others, owned slaves but the he championed and gave inspiring expression to John Locke's revolutionary conception: the inalienable rights of the individual.

He gave voice to this radical new vision of universal freedom. That's the actual reason he is loathed by those who seek state control over everything.

As to Jefferson's own views on the enslavement of blacks, here is what he wrote in his first draft of the Declaration, as one of the charges against George III [emphasis and punctuation taken from the original]:

"he has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating it's most sacred rights of life & liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating and carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere, or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither. this piratical warfare, the opprobrium of infidel powers, is the warfare of the Christian king of Great Britain. determined to keep open a market where MEN should be bought & sold, he has prostituted his negative for suppressing every legislative attempt to prohibit or to restrain this execrable commerce and that this assemblage of horrors might want no fact of distinguished die, he is now exciting those very ppeople to rise in arms among us, and to purchase that liberty of which he has deprived them, by murdering the people upon whom he also obtruded them; thus payng off former crimes committed against the liberties of one people, with crimes which he urges them to commit against the lives of another"

From: The Declaration of Independence by Carl L. Becker.

We should be fiercely proud of being graduates of a high school named in honor of this great champion of liberty.
